RECIPES & INGREDIENTS

Are all of your ingredients certified organic?
We are committed to delivering the best quality ingredients. We source organic fresh produce and eggs and our proteins are raised with high animal welfare standards. We also offer organic beef, chicken, and wild-caught seafood options. In the event that we cannot source an organic ingredient that meets our quality standards, we will let you know through labeling and in-box communications. In these cases, we focus on sourcing conventional options of the highest quality. All of our ingredients go through extensive screening to meet our high-integrity-ingredient standards.
What does it mean to be certified organic?
Being a certified organic handler of fresh produce and eggs means that our ingredients come from certified suppliers that undergo annual compliance inspections, and we maintain a strict list of approved ingredients that meet organic guidelines . For consumers concerned about this level of traceability in their food, “certified organic” offers that important assurance. Green Chef is the first certified organic handler in the Meal Kit category; ensuring the highest standards of food quality for select organic ingredients in our boxes, from the farm to your doorstep.
Why choose organic?
We firmly believe that organic is better for our health and for the ecosystem. It’s important to us to help preserve bee populations, rebuild soil, not eat synthetic chemicals, and be stewards of animal welfare. We don't think certified organic is the only worthwhile system in the food industry, but we have sincere belief in its origins and rules.
Do you support local, sustainable, and artisanal suppliers?
We absolutely do! At the heart of Green Chef is supporting local farmland, family farms, and craft economies. With each box you receive, you are helping dozens of suppliers that are benefitting from your choice. We work hard to partner with regional purveyors of high-integrity foods and are excited to help our suppliers thrive.

There is some prep work involved in our recipes. Cooking skills that will come in handy include dicing, chopping, peeling, and grating. How long will the food stay fresh?
To ensure your ingredients stay at the peak of freshness in which they were packed, we recommend storing all items at refrigerated temperatures. With the exception of seafood, all ingredients should be cooked and consumed within seven days of delivery. Seafood should be cooked and consumed within 2 days of delivery. Do not refreeze ingredients.
How long will it take to make dinner?

Most recipes in our plans are ready in about 30 minutes.

Each family recipe is designed with prep and hands-on cooking at the start. This frees up time while dinner finishes cooking in the oven or on the stove so you can help the kids with homework, sort the mail, teach the dog how to sit, whatever!

The estimated prep and cook time for each dish is listed on the recipe card.

What cooking equipment and ingredients do I need to have at home?

Here are some basic items we recommend that you have on hand for the best cooking experience:

Pantry items: Salt, pepper, olive oil, high temperature cooking oil (such as vegetable, safflower, canola, avocado, or coconut) or ghee. Read more about which cooking oils to keep in your pantry.
